Flood of applicants for new EU funding

The European Commission has taken advantage of the recent approval of the terms of the Sixth Framework Programme by announcing that it has had about 12,000 expressions of interest for funding from its €16.2 billion (£10.2 billion) budget.

Most prolific were informal bids for money for projects promoting sustainable development, global change and ecosystems, as well as for information technology projects.
