This week's prize for defying the zeitgeist and getting funding for it goes to Professor H. Davies of Reading University, who has been awarded Pounds 52,915 by the Department of the Environment to examine "United Kingdom planning achievements and trends since 1976". Presumably part of the money is to provide him with the microscope needed for the "achievements" bit.
