Feasting on history

Brian Brivati need have no fear about moving from histories of the Labour Party to histories of the doughnut ("Ringing the changes", THES, July 28). The respected historian of northwest England John K. Walton survived perfectly well the publication of an entire book on the history of fish and chips.
