Knives were sharpened for the recent final of the University Chefs' Challenge 2000 in London, in which 16 residential and catering services teams competed to cook a meal within a set time, in front of an audience and with specified ingredients. Sheffield scooped the gold medal, and Leeds brought home the silver. Aberdeen, which picked up awards for overall best hygiene and kitchen safety practices, as well as the overall bronze medal, was particularly pleased. The university rector is TV chef Clarissa Dickson Wright.
