Your article on a United States technical college spending $130,000 on a Y2K disaster plan ("US goes Y2K 'nuts'", THES, December 24/31) was only the tip of the iceberg. By the same token, the US is leading the way in online share trading - so there must be plenty of confident investors.

On investments, if you can turn $130,000 into Pounds 208,000, I have some dollars for you. (The sterling equivalent should have been stated as Pounds 80,000.) Colin Speakman Senior vice-president American Institute for Foreign Study London
