Brussels, 04 Sep 2006

The EUROCITIES conference will take place between 22 and 25 November in Manchester, UK. The theme of this year's event will be 'Knowledge Cities: Cities of the Future'. The conference aims to explore how cities can benefit from the 'knowledge economy', and contribute to the goals set-out in the Lisbon Agenda. To do this, the conference will be split into three round table discussions on: competitiveness, sustainability and social inclusion.

Representatives, including Mayors from major European cities will address the conference, in addition to UK Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Ruth Kelly and German MEP, Gisela Kallenbach. Also in attendance will be Dr Engelbert Lütke Daldrup, State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs, who will outline the agenda for Germany's upcoming tenure of the EU Presidency.
