EU project on monitoring European democracy to present results

June 11, 2004

Brussels, 10 Jun 2004

The results of the EUROPUB project, 'the European public space observatory; assembling information that allows the monitoring of European democracy', will be presented in Brussels on 18 June.

The aims of the project were to evaluate the extent to which current decision making structures and practices at European level provide an effective system of political contestation, and the extent to which a European 'political class' is emerging. The project was also charged with devising reliable indicators for monitoring developments in the European public sphere, and for examining how democratic Europe is.

The event will provide an opportunity for researchers to present, discuss and explain their findings and policy recommendations, and for the establishment of a dialogue between researchers, policy makers and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
