Brussels, 07 Feb 2005

The European Research Council (ERC) Identification Committee, established by EU Science and Research Commissioner Janez Potocnik to identify potential members of the Council's governing body, has invited the views of European research organisations.

Chair of the Identification Committee, Lord Patten, said: 'If the Commission's ambitions for a new frontier research programme are to be realised, the future members of the European Research Council will carry considerable responsibility and they must bear the trust of the European research community.

'We have therefore written to all the main representative organisations of research in Europe to invite their views on the factors and criteria that should be taken into consideration in the identification process. We would also be pleased to hear from other groups representing European Research,' he ended. Relevant responses should be sent to the following address: E-mail: rtd-erc@cec.eu.int
