Forty British and French students will join the fourth year of the Entente Cordiale scholarship scheme in the new academic year. The scheme, set up by French president Jacques Chirac and former British prime minister John Major during the 1995 Paris summit, has been beset by problems recruiting British students. In 1999-2000, 24 British students will study at major French universities.
