Forty-one businesses were beaten by Durham University to the North East Environmental Business Award. Awarded in partnership with the Environment Agency, the prize recognised the university's progress on recycling and encouraging its use in the wider community, including Durham Prison and Collingwood College. Durham came 29th in the 2008 People and Planet Green League, published exclusively by Times Higher Education.
