Mystery surrounds a comment made by Donna May, founder of the Molly Mopps cleaning agency. She was quoted in the Sunday Herald last week as saying: "Intellectuals like university lecturers have the worst houses I've seen in my life. Nothing gets done until things are falling on top of them, padding is bursting out of their couches... their lives seem to revolve around books." But how can university lecturers afford the £19.80 an hour for a two-person cleaning team? Perhaps the problem identified by Ms May is a consequence of their being able to find the fee only very occasionally.
