Post-1992 universities might be interested in news that has reached the ears of The Diary. It involves a telephone call from the Department for Education and Skills to Universities UK.
The DFES employee, who shall remain nameless, had a straightforward question, the gist of which was: "Can you tell me which universities are the new universities?"
The UUK employee, who shall also remain nameless, answered: "All of them? Not off the top of my head. Erm, isn't that something that the Education Department should, well, really know already?"
