Devolution and Constitutional Change - phase two

Deadline: 31/01/2001

December 8, 2000

This £4.7 million programme of research, runs from 2000 to 2005, examines a wide range of matters relating to devolution, constitutional change and consequential effects. The programme of research has three themes - nationalism and national identity; governance and constitutional matters; and economic and social policy.

This second round is designed to supplement the projects funded in the first round by giving emphasis to potentially under-researched aspects of the devolution process. The specification of research issues under the three theme headings below is therefore new, and supercedes the specification for the first round. The need for applications involving historical depth and the economic dimension is emphasised, as is research on the English regions, social and economic policy and the particular institutional arrangements in Northern Ireland.

Further enquiries about procedures for application should be made to the ESRC Office via Dr. Stephen Struthers (email: stephen.struthers@esrc.ac.uk ). The Programme Director, Professor Charlie Jeffery, will be happy to discuss outline project ideas with potential applicants prior to submission (email: stephen.struthers@esrc.ac.uk ).
