Detour for auditors

A reader has contacted The Diary to report that staff at Coventry University have been asked not to submit travel claims where the mileage ends in a zero. Apparently, the auditors assume that if you claim for a trip of 20, 30 or 150 miles, you must be inventing an approximate figure because you neglected to note the real distance, and they will challenge it.

This is causing problems for staff travelling to places such as Milton Keynes (50 miles) or Great Yarmouth (160 miles). Resourceful types can be found making an extra circuit of the Coventry ring road so as to add an extra 2 miles to the trip and to save the auditors such anguish.
