Desire for discovery must be preserved: Ogilvie

CHILDREN'S enthusiasm for discovery must not be smothered by poor pay, prospects and social standing, warns Dame Bridget Ogilvie, director of the Wellcome Trust. Writing in the Trust's annual review, she says the trust has no obligation to fund UK research. Although the Wellcome Trust can help with equipment and even salaries, "we cannot solve the malaise of the universities ourselves", she says.
