While he's been finishing off his duties as editor of The Spectator , Boris Johnson, the new Tory Higher Education Spokesman, has been tight-lipped about what he makes of tuition fees and the state of universities. But could an editorial from his magazine from late 2002 hint at what he thinks? The article railed at Labour and concluded: "The universities should no longer stand for government control. They should seize the opportunity and declare independence."
