The University of Central Lancashire has announced that its campuses at Penrith and Carlisle will join with St Martin's College and the Cumbria Institute of the Arts to form the new University for Cumbria.
UCLan will retain the Westlakes Research Institute in West Cumbria. The University for Cumbria is expected to be launched in September 2007.
