Crewe takes helm

Ivor Crewe is the new vice chancellor of the University of Essex. He has been acting vice chancellor since May, when Ron Johnston left. He arrived in Essex as a lecturer in 1971. His new book on the Social Democratic Party (with co-author Anthony King of Essex) is reviewed in this week's THES by Shirley Williams (page 22).
