Graduates who missed out on their degree ceremony because of the IRA's bombing of Birmingham in 1974 will belatedly get their moment of glory. Coventry University is to honour the Class of 1974 by inviting alumni back for a graduation ceremony in Coventry Cathedral, followed by a reunion celebration. The idea came from Robert Leek, a graduate of Lanchester Polytechnic, which later became Coventry University. In a letter to the institution, he says: "To my bitter disappointment, the graduation ceremony that year was cancelled due to the terrorist pub bombings in Birmingham and so I was denied my proud day in Coventry Cathedral." Students and staff from the Class of 1974 are invited to attend.
