Leaders of lecturers' unions have called off a threatened strike at Sheffield College after governors agreed a cost-saving package that avoids compulsory redundancies.
At a meeting this week, governors agreed to extend a voluntary retirement scheme and convert sub-contracted training to mainstream provision to make the Pounds 500,000 savings needed to keep the college viable.
