Correction

In our article "EU institute starts to take shape" (Times Higher August 3), we quoted David Livesey, secretary-general of the League of European Research Universities, as saying that the European Research Council had recently issued a call for applications for research funding.

The call was in fact from the European Commission's Directorate General for Education and Culture, and Dr Livesey's comments about a form of geographical political correctness related to that call.

We apologise for this error.
