Core Strategic Measurements for Atmospheric Science

Deadline: 11/01/2002

November 7, 2001

NERC has allocated £4.5m to the COSMAS programme over five years. This is the third of three calls for proposals over the lifetime of the programme. Approximately £1.2m will be available in this round. UK researchers are invited to submit full proposals to carry out research in the areas outlined below.

Development of novel field instruments and new instrumental technology suitable for application to atmospheric science;
Laboratory studies of nucleation and other properties of aerosols, and processes where trace gases interact with the condensed phase;
Spectroscopic investigations aimed at providing accurate spectral data for key applications, such as remote sensing of tropospheric species, cloud studies, or for studies of outstanding problems in radiative transfer, such as the water vapour continuum;
Kinetics and mechanism of gas-phase reactions and photochemical processes that drive many aspects of the chemistry of the atmosphere.
