Brussels, 23 Mar 2004
CORDIS, the European Community's Research and Development Information Service, has launched a new service on security research.
The creation of a Security Research Preparatory Action was proposed by the European Commission in February 2004 in its communication 'Towards a programme to advance European security through research and technology'. The main aim of this communication is 'to assess the need for a further initiative that will complement and liaise with existing and future intergovernmental schemes; be open to all EU members and operate on the basis of Community principles; and contribute to bridging the current gap between generic civil research (as supported by EC Framework Programmes) and national and intergovernmental programmes oriented to defence procurement needs.'
Developments relating to the communication can be followed on the new site. Through its daily news service, CORDIS has been closely following the security research issue and reporting on all major contributions and events. http://www.cordis.lu/security
