Trade and Industry secretary Stephen Byers is holding out the prospect of a "new flagship project" for the Warrington-based Daresbury Laboratory site, which recently lost out on a Pounds 500 million investment in a new synchrotron radiation source.
At a meeting with Daresbury unions and representatives from local government and nearby universities, he said a committee would be established soon to identify possible new projects.
