Delegates at the Labour Party conference last week were instructed to switch off their mobile phones as they entered the conference hall.
Sadly, this meant that they were unable to check David Blunkett's claim that his phone plays the theme from The Archers, BBC Radio 4's long-running countryside soap - a controversial choice given the trouble Labour has had from rural England in recent weeks.
