Brussels, 30 May 2006
The European Commission will host a workshop on the development of infrastructures for repositories of scientific information, on the 8 and 9 June, in Brussels.
The workshop aims to assess the role of Digital Repositories (DR) in Europe's future research infrastructure, and in particular to consider how DR could form an effective part of e-infrastructure.
The issues to be debated include:
- Views on knowledge infrastructures, and their impact in different scientific areas of research and education;
- A review of the use and purpose of different aspects of knowledge infrastructure: technological, operational and organisational;
- Lessons learned from initiatives in different EU Member States and other regions, and how could these help in tailoring pan-European initiatives.
The event will be held in anticipation of the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7), for which the Commission is carrying a number of impact assessment initiatives, addressing the area of DR and knowledge infrastructures as background of its future policy work.
