Brussels, 07 March 2002

The fourth inter-parliamentary meeting on renewable energy resources in the EU will take place in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, from 19 to 21 April. The European Commission, along with EUFORES, the Spanish energy agencies, organised and supported the event.

Members of the European Parliament and national and regional Parliaments will attend the event, which will look at the many issues surrounding the supply and generation of renewable energy in an EU context. Topics to be discussed include security of supply, environmental issues, implementation of EU initiatives into national legislation and the Kyoto protocol.

The conclusions of the meetings will be given to ministers at the informal seminar of energy ministers, taking place on 26 to 28 April. The three previous meetings of this type were a success in that their conclusions led to initiatives in a number of Member States.
