Christian college chooses York base

November 26, 1999

* The College of Ripon and York St John is basing itself in York after operating from two campuses since 1974.

It says it is moving in order to retain its independence as a Christian seat of learning.

The timing of the move will be decided after consultations with staff and students, 3,000 of whom are based in York and 800 in Ripon, some 25 miles away. Academic staff at Ripon will be offered jobs in York but redundancies are expected among other staff.
