The government announced this week that it is seeking a "further education champion" to run a new unit devoted to raising standards in post-16 learning. The unit will be responsible for standards and effectiveness across further education. Its director will be paid £85,000 a year and will work closely with ministers and officials from the Learning and Skills Council.
