A doctorate from the fictional "Unseen University" has been handed to the vice-chancellor of Buckinghamshire New University by author Terry Pratchett. Mr Pratchett received his own honorary doctorate from the university at one of ten graduation ceremonies last week. He conferred his fictional award on Ruth Farwell, who was presented with a badge, scroll and wizard's hat - and a beard, because in the words of Mr Pratchett: "The Unseen University won't have any female graduates, undergraduates, or anyone other than cooks.".
