The European Commission has approved 117 new grants made under the Jean Monnet Project, which aims to fund academic studies, centres and chairs devoted to studying the process of European integration. The commission is to spend E3.2 billion (Pounds 1.9 billion) on the programme, with money also being spent on many of the 647 existing approved projects. Since 1990, the project has helped member states set up 2,319 university teaching projects. Full details at http://www.europa.eu.int/comm/dg10/university/index_en.html.
