Brand to appeal against sacking

Solicitors acting for the sacked Edinburgh University lecturer Christopher Brand say they will next week lodge an appeal against the university's decision. The self-declared "scientific racist" lost his job two weeks ago for gross misconduct after questioning the appropriateness of paedophilia charges brought against Nobel prizewinner Daniel Gajdusek and suggesting that not all forms of paedophilia were harmful. Mr Brand has set up a fighting fund. (See Letters, page 13.)
