Borrowers could cash in on loan work

Need cash to pay off your student loan? Then why not work for the Student Loans Company chasing up other borrowers who are in arrears?

The SLC is seeking applications by August 16 for part-time collection agents working a 16-hour week in its central Glasgow headquarters. It wants applicants with a financial or business background, but believes the jobs are ideal for a potentially large group of student borrowers, since the hours are Monday to Thursday evenings from, 5.30pm to 8.30pm, and Saturday mornings.

Vivienne Christison, head of human resources, said: "There would certainly be a major benefit in hiring people with first-hand, even current experience of using student loans."

Applicants are promised full training in "customer handling". They will initially earn £5.38 an hour, plus benefits, with a pay review after six months.
