Blairite bloomers

The sands and slot machines of Blackpool offered few pleasures to the Labour Students at last week's National Union of Students conference. Not one Labour hopeful was elected to the prime NUS vice-presidential jobs - treasurer, welfare and education. Meanwhile, Kat Fletcher - arch anti-Blairite - was re-elected by a massive margin, taking 536 of the 800 votes. The Labour leadership will no doubt be wondering where its next generation of backbench MPs will be coming from.
