A workshop on 'the role of biotechnology for the characterisation and conservation of crop, forestry, animal and fishery genetic resources' will take place in Turin, Italy, from 5 to 7 March.
The event will include sessions on: the status of the world's agro-biodiversity; the use of biotechnology for conservation of genetic resources; genetic characterisation of populations and its use in conservation decision making.
The results of the EU funded project ECONOGENE will be presented, and a representative from the European Commission will give a presentation on biotechnology and biodiversity in the EU framework programmes for research.
