Six Chinese universities are being linked this month to form the world's largest grid computing project for education and research.
The initiative will create a virtual hub capable of 15 trillion calculations a second that can automatically locate appropriate resources from e-learning courses to life sciences research tools.
The China education and research grid will expand to include 100 universities with some 200,000 students by 2005.
