Students at Chinese universities will have a choice of 249 specialities in 11 degree subjects next year after a ministry of education curriculum restructuring exercise. Previously there were 504 specialisms. The subjects are: philosophy, education, science, medicine, management, economics, law, literature, history, engineering and agronomy. The move aims to assist the country's economic and social development as it transforms itself from a planned to a market economy.
