The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council is tightening its application procedures to ease the workload on its staff and the associated peer-review panels and referees.
Currently, 40 per cent of applications have errors or require staff to contact the researchers, and the number of applications is rising. In the next awards round, the council will accept no late applications, and forms will have to comply with a checklist.
