Indigenous communities are attempting to connect with their cultural history by eating traditional foods, using native languages and moving back to their local environment, according to sociologists at the University of Essex. The researchers are calling on policymakers to deal with disconnected communities by promoting community-driven revitalisation projects. Sam Pilgrim, the lead researcher, said: "Disconnection from nature and the local environment is causing harm to indigenous peoples already marginalised by limited wealth, power and status ... Many groups are now taking action to protect and support their communities and cultures."
