Appointments

Leeds University has appointed the following to centenary chairs: Zhongmin Jin , professor of medical engineering at Bradford University, chair in computational bioengineering; Jon Lloyd , Max Planck Institute, chair in earth system science; Lucia Nagib , associate professor at the Campinas University in Brazil, chair in world cinema; Ian Robertson , professor of microwave subsystems engineering at Surrey University, chair in microwave and millimetre-WQave circuits; and David Watling , senior lecturer at the Institute for Transport Studies, chair in transport analysis.

Essex University has appointed: Jay Mitra professor of business enterprise and innovation. The post was funded by Southend Borough Council, the Government Office for the East of England, Business Link for Essex and the Thames Gateway South Essex Partnership. Essex's sociology department has appointed: Ewa Morawska , of Pennsylvania University, professor of scoiology; and Max Bergman , head of research projects and methodology at the Swiss Information and Data Archive Service, senior lecturer.

Julia Addington-Hall , personal chair in palliative care research and policy and deputy head of the department of palliative care at King's College London, has been appointed professor in end of life care at Southampton University's School of Nursing.

Correction
Waqar Ahmad , director of research and assistant vice-chancellor at Middlesex University, was not former chief social scientist with the British Government as stated last week, but chief social scientist in the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister. Previous to this, he was at Leed's Centre for Research in Primary Care.
