The 14th annual meeting of Academia Europaea will examine 'The sciences and the understanding of risk: policies for public trust and well being' in Lisbon, Portugal, from 9 to 12 October.
The conference will examine the problems related to risk in modern society, survey the different ways in which risk has been treated and mistreated and look at the public perception of risk. It will also examine particular case studies and look at future ways of handling risk for scientists, the media, civil society and policy makers.
Speakers will include the Prime Minister of Portugal, Dr Durão Barroso, Research DG Director-General Achilleas Mitsos and Rainer Gerold, Director of the Research DG's science and society unit.
