Aberystwyth University - Scientists keen to sow oats

Researchers in Wales are leading a study to develop new and improved varieties of oats. The five-year project, which will be led by scientists at the Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences at Aberystwyth University, is also expected to deliver health benefits by encouraging more people to eat oats as part of a healthier diet. The project aims to create hardy plants that are cheap to grow, but will also consider the genetic basis of beta-glucan content in oats, which is known to lower human cholesterol levels.
