Cathy Jamieson, Scotland's minister for education and young people, has announced £400,000 to boost the number of postgraduates taking social work courses.
At the first conference of the Scottish Social Services Council, Ms Jamieson said there was an "immediate challenge" to encourage people to consider careers in social work and social care. Plans are also under way for a new social work honours degree for frontline staff.
