The first stage of a £20 million centre of excellence at the University of Sunderland is expected to be given the go-ahead next month.
The university has submitted plans to the city council for building along the river bank at its St Peter's campus. They include a three to four-storey media studies teaching block for up to 2,000 students, an auditorium seating about 300 people and an extension to the learning resource centre.
