The director of South Bank Polytechnic, Pauline Perry, revealed her secret for getting things done: "I have instituted a noticeboard outside the door. The board lists all my day's appointments, so casual callers can see that there is no room."

The book contains "three separate studies concerning lesbian identity, lesbian politics and the social construction of homophobia ... using an unusual technique called 'Q' methodology. 'Q' methodology is designed to elicit subjective accounts of 'myself-as-defined-by-me' rather than 'the-self-as-it-really-is'. However, 'Q' methodology is not likely to win subscribers as it is a thicket of dense, technical jargon and contains baffling statements such as: 'one Q methodologist compares human situations to snowflakes'."
