Further Education Development Agency

Qualifications and Curriculum Authority

The Qualifications and Curriculum Authority came into being in October 1997 and brought together the work of the National Council for Vocational Qualifications and the School Curriculum and Assessment Authority.


Scottish Qualifications Authority

The Scottish Qualifications Authority is the national body in Scotland for the development, accreditation, assessment and certification of qualifications other than degrees



Edexcel was formed in 1996 by the merger of Btec, the leading provider of vocational qualifications, and The University of London Examinations and Assessment Council, one of the major GCSE and GCE examining bodies. It provides a wide range of qualifications including GCSEs, GCE AS and A levels; GNVQs, Btec First, National, and Higher National Certificates and Diplomas; NVQs; Key Skills and Entry Qualifications and specific programmes for employers that can be taken in schools, colleges, universities or in the workplace.
