Doctorates: Stanley Kalms, chairman, Dixons Group plc; John (Jock) Campbell, late chairman, Booker McConnell and Runnymede Trust; Sheila Rowbotham, author.

Masters: Trevor Phillips, presenter and producer, London Weekend Television.

Fellowships: Edward Lawlor, chairman of the Lawlor Foundation.

Emeka Anyaoku, secretary general of the Commonwealth and Anita Roddick, Body Shop founder, both nominated for honorary degrees were unable to attend the conferment ceremony.
