DSc: Eric Hassall, chairman of the British Geological Survey Board, chairman Wardell Armstrong.

DTech: Ian Lloyd, former director of procurement at Rolls Royce plc; Ronald Dearing, chairman of the School Curriculum and Assessment Authority.

MBA: Christopher Marks, the late central services librarian at the university, a posthumous degree in recognition of his contribution to the university.

Cuthbert, Sheild professor of pharmacology, chairman of the British Pharmacological Society; Peter Doyle, research chemist and director of Zeneca Group; Stephen Fry, writer, actor, commedian and rector of the university; Ibrahim Shihata, economic lawyer and director general of OPEC's Special Fund in Vienna; William Stewart, former chief scientific adviser to the Cabinet and head of the Office of Science and Technology; Albert Watson, photographer.
