Email, faxes on the move

British Telecom has teamed up with Apple Computer to provide a complete mobile data solution aimed at academics and commerce.

Until now it has been impossible to buy an off-the-shelf solution to manipulate different data on the move.

The wireless package launched last week means that users of the new Newton MessagePad 120 (pictured right) can read their email and access online information service using Cellnet's GSM cellular network. They can also send faxes Users of the Apple Powerbook 500 series portables will also be able to receive fax messages as well as the other services. The package is a Nokia phone, data card and BT Mobile airtime integrated with a Powerbook or MessagePad 120 and a GSM connection kit. Apple are also launching a system upgrade for earlier versions of the MessagePad to take the new package.
