WYE COLLEGE. Nicholas Russell, former reader in the department of biochemistry at the University College of Wales in Cardiff, has been appointed professor in food microbiology.

UNIVERSITY OF BRADFORD. Kevin Featherstone, reader, personal chair in European politics; Andrew Day, MSc programme manager, Ford chair in quality engineering; Les Porter, Prudential Assurance lecturer in business improvement, Ford chair in quality management; Mohamed Zairi, Unilever lecturer in total quality management, Saudi Basic Industries Corporation chair of best practice management.

ABERDEEN UNIVERSITY. George Watson, former reader, has been awarded a personal chair in Irish literature in English, believed to be the first in the United Kingdom.

GOLDSMITHS COLLEGE. David Morley, former reader in media studies, has been appointed to the chair of communications.
